Marco Tempest introduced his latest techno-illusion on Fox TV’s New Years Even special from Times Square as 2007 drew to a close. With an estimated one million people celebrating in Times Square, and many times that number tuned in to their TV sets to see the ball drop, this may be Tempest’s largest US audience to date. While chatting with Spike Feresten, host of Fox’s popular Talkshow, Marco plucked one of the thousands of lights from one of the illuminated signs surrounding Times Square and placed it onto his shirt. The light began to slide back and forth across the shirt at Tempest’s command, and then he grabbed it and transformed it into a ball of flashing lights. He released the ball, and it flew once around his body and then back onto the shirt, where it spelled out “Happy New Year” in multicolored letters. For a finale, Marco used the shirt to predict a comedy version of the announcer’s New Year’s resolution. When asked about his magic shirt, Tempest said, “It’s a brand new piece of technology, and we’ve been working for the past several weeks to develop something really new and unique with it. I’ll be showing lots more of what it can do when I perform with it next week at CES in Las Vegas. The possibilities are nearly endless – for me to interact with assistants wearing the shirts, and even for us to use it on a model or actor as a magical human billboard.”
