Imagination runs wild in a world where anything can happen
The promise of Virtual Reality fulfilled - almost. With this creative bit of technical trickery, Tempest can take a random audience member into any environment imaginable: Into outer space, inside a video game, into the human body, inside a computer...almost anywhere that can be imagined. He's even taken people inside the browser interface for an Internet application! Once there, unexpected and often hilarious things begin to happen... Here's the basic plot: Tempest invites an audience member to experience the newest of technologies - Full Immersion Virtual Reality. The volunteer selects a virtual environment from a menu, and Tempest escorts them "into" that environment... inside a video wall or rear projection display on stage. Once "inside" the environment, Tempest and the Volunteer engage in a game or an exploration. A technical glitch occurs, and the Volunteer winds up frozen, then "shrunk" down to a 4" high version of themselves. Tempest takes the miniature person on the palm of his hand and walks back out on the stage with him. A video camera magnification shows the Volunteer on Tempest's hand as the two converse. Finally, Tempest places the Volunteer back into the video wall, and he or she is restored to their former size. The two of them exit the Virtual Environment and Video Wall together. The virtual environment selected, and the catastrophe which occurs, can be designed to be anything that will serve your purpose: The inside of an intercity telephone network, the human body, an interactive library, a kit of special tools...whatever metaphor might best make the point you wish to convey.
